Dr. Brown offers chiropractic evaluations and treatments in order to restore correct biomechanical motions and nerve functions thereby enhancing the body’s innate ability to heal and maintain wellness. She has completed training at the Options for Animals School of Animal Chiropractic in Kansas, and is certified in Veterinary Chiropractic by the International Veterinary Chiropractic Association.
The goal of equine chiropractic therapy is to restore the function and motion of compromised vertebrae in an effort to re-establish neurologic transmissions and allow the body to perform at its optimum potential. Through palpation the veterinarian identifies vertebral subluxation complexes, which many people inaccurately think of as “bones out of place”. Rather, a subluxation complex is when a joint is restricted somewhere within its normal range of motion, and the lack of normal motion causes surrounding muscles and ligaments to become compromised and inflamed. This inflammation and lack of proper motion interfere with the nervous system, which then resonates throughout the entire body and impedes with the body’s innate ability to heal and maintain wellness. Once a restriction is identified, a precise thrust is applied in order to restore the normal motion of the vertebra, removing the neurologic interference.
Chiropractic treatments do not replace traditional lameness examinations and treatments but rather work best when integrated together.
